The Senate Wednesday has made a case for a N1.1 billion fund for the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps as it passed for second reading a bill seeking for the establishment of the Nigerian Civil Defence Academy in Pandogari, Niger State.

The chamber noted that over 70 per cent of NSCDC personnel lack basic training due to non-availability of academy or institution for that. The academy, according to the sponsor of the bill, Sani Musa , if established, would stem the tide of training deficiencies among personnel of the corps. He said: “ The proposal for the establishment of the Nigerian Civil Defence Academy is a fall-out of several internal security challenges we face as a nation which are clearly becoming overwhelming to our security agencies.”
