The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control has warned that there are more coronavirus cases in the country than reported. The Director-General of the NCDC, Dr.
Chikwe Ihekweazu, said this on Monday during the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 press briefing in Abuja.
During the press briefing monitored by our correspondent, Ihekweazu urged Nigerians to shun social gatherings.The NCDC DG said, “We have to make it socially unacceptable to be seen outside the home without face masks. We must also discourage one another from mass gatherings that are not necessary.“That a church or mosque decides to open doesn’t make it compulsory for you to attend. Attendance is still a personal responsibility.
The NCDC had on Sunday said Nigeria recorded 403 new cases of coronavirus, bringing the total number of confirmed infections in the country to 16,085. It also announced that no fewer than 420 patients have died of coronavirus-related complications in Nigeria. Data obtained from the NCDC by The PUNCH showed that Nigeria currently has 10,445 active COVID-19 cases.
