Bagong Henerasyon partylist Rep. Bernadette Herrera, on May 24, Sunday, called on the government to keep a tight watch on the cost of COVID-19 testing at hospitals and laboratories to make sure these remain accessible for all Filipinos.
The House deputy Majority leader batted for “uniform, across-the-board, and affordable” coronavirus screening, as some hospitals and laboratories are imposing fees of up to P8,150 for a single COVID test.
She described as “way too expensive and overpriced” the P8,150 being charged those who underwent the screening for the coronavirus as compared to the locally-developed GenAmplify test kit, which costs only P1,320, and the laboratory fees amounted to around P2,000. Herrera explained that the government’s regulation of the cost of COVID-19 testing “falls within the ambit” of Republic Act 11469 or the “Bayanihan to Heal as One” Act.
