Those who lost out yesterday were Senator Senator Abiola Ajimobi, the outgoing governor of Oyo State who failed to make a return to the Oyo South Senate seat and Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe State who failed in his bid to represent the Gombe North Senate seat.

Governor Ajimobi had prior to his election as governor served in the Senate between 2003 and 2007. Dankwambo on his part had prior to his election as governor been the accountant general of the federation, AGF.Those who won include Senator Ibikunle Amosun, Kashim Shetimma , Ibrahim Gaidam . As at press time, the position of Governor Abdulaziz Yari and Rochas Okorocha was still unclear. The circumstances surrounding the declaration of Governor Rochas Okorocha as senator-elect for Imo West threw up controversy yesterday following allegations that the result was declared under duress.

There are presently at least 14 former governors in the Senate. Two of them, Senators Bukola Saraki and Godswill Akpabio have been reported to have lost their re-election bids.
