Workers in the employment of federal, state and local governments in Oyo State on Monday complied with the strike ordered by the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and Trade Union Congress, TUC. DAILY POST reports that the labour unions had directed their members to embark on an indefinite strike.
DAILY POST correspondent who went round Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, observed that government workers complied with the detective. Our correspondent also reports that teachers in public schools in the state also joined the strike. The Federal Secretariat in Ibadan was shut down when our correspondent visited the area on Monday.
It was also observed that gates of public schools in the state capital were shut down. Our correspondent, who visited Bishop Philips Academy at Iwo Road, observed that students who came to the school in the morning were told to go home by the security operatives who were at the gate. Similar incident was reported in other schools visited by our correspondent. At Ibadan North Local Government Secretariat, the main gate was shut when our correspondent visited the area.
