The umbrella body of Northern Nigeria, the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), has warned President Bola Tinubu and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) against military intervention in the Niger Republic. The Authority of Heads of State and Governments of ECOWAS, which Nigeria chairs also issued a seven-day ultimatum to the military in Niger Republic to restore the ousted President. Nigeria Defence Headquarters, the high military command in Nigeria, on Thursday, said that military action is the last option to be taken to reverse the situation and return the government of the Republic of Niger to constitutional order, adding that it had not yet received such orders.
The organisation, which gave the warning in a statement issued on Friday through its General Secretary, Murtala Aliyu, called for dialogue to resolve the issue. “The measures being contemplated should have taken into consideration the historical antecedents and mutual interests of the two countries and weighed the consequences of the use of military force.
