Michael Dunlop won Wednesday's Supertwins race to go one clear of his legendary uncle Joey Dunlop at the top of the standings
Michael Dunlop wrote his name into the history books on Wednesday as he clinched his 27th Isle of Man TT victory. The Ballymoney rider proved his class once again with a dominant win in the Metzeler Supertwin Race 1.
Dunlop finished 20.406 seconds ahead of Peter Hickman, with Dom Herbertson completing the podium in third. The 33-year-old is now the most successful rider in Isle of Man TT history, having pulled one win clear of his legendary uncle Joey Dunlop whose previous record of 26 had stood since 2000. Michael had equalled that record last Saturday with victory in the opening Supersport race, and agonisingly missed out on breaking it on Sunday when a visor issue cost him victory in the Superbikes.He led from start to finish in Wednesday's Supertwins, witn his Paton S1-R machine never missing a beat. Dunlop opened up a 10-second lead after the first lap, and extended that to 12 seconds at the end of the second lap.
And Dunlop didn't look back as he stretched his lead even further in the final lap to make it win number 27.
