But McDonald’s franchise owners want to put customers’ minds at ease — insisting that free refills will remain even after the self-serve machines are gone.Article content But that will change by 2024, when stores will start the renovation process of moving plumbing behind the counter, removing the self-serve drink stations and freeing up that space for something new.
That drop of in-restaurant dining prompted the company to rethink the use of its physical space, while the COVID-19 pandemic forced McDonald’s to make minimizing human contact a priority.
