Ally McCoist commends Ruben Amorim's tactical acumen in exploiting Trent Alexander-Arnold's defensive vulnerabilities, leading to Manchester United's 2-2 draw against Liverpool.
Former Rangers star and football pundit Ally McCoist has praised Ruben Amorim and his Manchester United side for how they dealt with Liverpool by exploiting Trent Alexander-Arnold 's defensive weaknesses in their 2-2 draw in the Premier League this Sunday. DAILY POST reports that former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand had earlier lavished praise on Red Devils players while urging them to sustain their momentum and set a standard.
The 2-2 draw away at Liverpool was United's second consecutive stalemate against the Reds in the Premier League. Liverpool, against all expectations, failed to extend their lead in the Premier League. Manchester United were at Anfield to face the Reds in a difficult fixture, especially as the Red Devils were going through a poor run of form. DAILY POST reports that Amorim's men, prior to their visit to Anfield, had lost their last three league fixtures before the New Year. Meanwhile, the Merseysiders had won their last three fixtures dominantly, scoring 14 goals in the process. Trent Alexander-Arnold had a poor game defensively, losing all five of his ground duels. Ally McCoist heaped praise on manager Amorim for exploiting the England international's shortcomings to secure a point at Anfield. He told talkSPORT: 'I know it's only one game, but I thought it was a very, very good performance from United. 'But in terms of Trent's defensive play yesterday, I thought it was really, really poor, but I'm maybe not just as surprised as some people are. 'I don't think he's great defensively. I think, as I said earlier, his main attribute is going forward, with the ball at his feet and passing. 'So, fair play to Ruben Amorim and United for exploiting that, and they did it exceptionally well.' Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur will lock horns in the semi-final of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday. Manchester United's next game will be against Arsenal in the third round of the FA Cup on Sunday
