KUALA LUMPUR: The MCA has condemned irresponsible groups calling for a campaign to boycott non-Muslim products through social media.
Its president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said the move was against national interests and an act of economic sabotage.
He said it was more important that all Malaysians support “Brand Malaysia”, adding that Malaysian products should be given priority.“Don’t shoot yourselves on the foot because Malays often made up the majority of workers. “Let’s not hurt each other or hurt ourselves because no rational businessmen would choose their customers based on race and religion, ” he said in a statement Monday .He said the timing of the move was bad as Malaysians had just celebrated the National Day.“Most local products are already halal compliance as manufacturers want to reach out to all Malaysians, ” he added.
