Presidential candidate and Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso on Sunday, April 3, said the party-list system in the country should continue.

In the Commission on Elections’ Presidential Debates 2022 Part Two, Domagoso said he is in favor of keeping the party-list system but the Comelec must be empowered to ensure that it is serving its original purpose.

“Party-list system must continue, but we have to put safeguards whether through empowerment of Comelec on distinguishing membership of the party-list or their representation or nominees,” he said. “Are they really representing the marginalized? Dapat gumawa tayo ng batas … Change the political system,” he pointed out.“Ang nangyayari ngayon, parang ang nagiging partylist ay mga mayayaman na, hindi na yung mga sector na nangangailangan ng tulong ,” he previously said.“Isama ko na siya sa akin pong initiative na proposal na change of political system natin. It is high time na tayo ay bumalik sa two-party system ,” he said.

The Manila mayor said he will also propose an amendment that will elect two senators in each of the country’s 17 regions for a total of 34 senators.
