The police on Friday arraigned a 40-year-old man, Kayode Ayeni, at an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged possession of Indian hemp.

The defendant, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a charge of possession of hemp, according to theThe prosecutor, Inspector Bamikole Olasunkanmi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on October 21 at about 10p.m in Ado-Ekiti.Olasunkanmi said that the offence contravened section 5 of the Indian Hemp Act 1966. He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the file and assemble his witnesses.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Michael Faola, granted the defendant bail for N100,000 with one surety in like sum. He adjourned the case until November 21 for hearing.All rights reserved.
