A 30-year-old man, Patrick Umeh, on Wednesday appeared before an Osun State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Osogbo for allegedly causing the death of one Sefiu Aderoki with his vehicle.

The police prosecutor, Abiodun Fagboyinbo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on August 3, 2020, in the Agunbelewo area of Osogbo.

Fagboyinbo explained that the defendant drove a Toyota Hiace bus with number plate FKJ 797 XX recklessly and injured one Sikiru Muritala and Raheem Jamiu, and caused the death of Aderoki. According to him, the offences are contrary to and punishable under sections 4 and 5 of the Federal Highway Act, Cap 34, Vol. ll, Laws of Osun State, 2002, and Section 81 of the Road Traffic Act, Cap 115, Vol. Vl, Laws of Osun State, 2003The counsel for the defendant, Mr Emmanuel Odeh, pleaded with the court to admit him to bail.

Ruling on the application, the presiding magistrate, Isola Omisade, ordered that the defendant be remanded in police custody.All rights reserved.
