This weekend marks the first anniversary of the death in custody of Mahsa Amini, 22, who was detained allegedly for not wearing a headscarf properly. Journalist Niloofar Hamedi’s tweet, featuring a photo of Amini’s father and grandmother at the hospital, was the first sign to the world that all was not well with Amini. This phrase became the slogan of anti-government protests.
