Exclusive: Mark Horsham had been an SNP councillor in South Lanarkshire.
Former SNP MP Lisa Cameron's husband has quit the party less than a fortnight after she defected to the Tories.
Horsham represents the Clydesdale South ward on the council and had been business manager for the party. She had previously threatened to resign as an MP and spark a by-election if she did not win the selection contest.A spokesperson for the SNP South Lanarkshire group said: “After 6 positive and successful years of working together as part of the SNP South Lanarkshire team, it is regretful to see Mark take this decision for reasons unconnected to his relationship with the Group.
The Daily Record reported that Cameron had repeatedly mentioned her support for independence in a hustings just a couple of weeks before she joined the Tories.
