Interventions made by columnists and readers’ responses to them would always have their talking points. My piece titled, ‘Boris Johnson and that disease in the heart’ , generated something similar. It’s not often I respond to readers’ comments, but sometimes, I do for either of the following reasons. One, when a reader justifies what no one should justify in any society that wants orderliness. Two, when a reader’s argument sends wrong notions to young impressionable Nigerians.

Also, in the middle of the pandemic last year, I pointed out that the World Health Organisation asked people to not ingest alcohol and other dangerous substances, but it didn’t specify what they should ingest . I added that the WHO could have stated in its message that people should eat immune-boosting foods in addition to observing the COVID-19 protocols. One Nigerian said I was stupid to expect the WHO and doctors to tell people such things.

In the July 2, 2021 piece, I stated that people shouldn’t hate fellow humans because of the criminality of a few. I didn’t make reference to any tribe in Nigeria, but Maye zeroed in on the Fulani, asking why I should expect Nigerians to not hate every Fulani since herdsmen attacked them. He justified hatred for every Fulani and rounded off with a wish referencing “God.
