“The decision of the High Court to grant you bail has been set aside by the Court of Appeal.”

Former First Lady of Lesotho Maesaiah Thabane appears in the magistrate court in Maseru on June 3, 2020. – Lesotho’s former first lady Maesaiah Thabane was June 3, 2020, taken into custody following last week’s court decision to cancel her controversial bail over the 2017 murder of her husband’s estranged wife.

Police failed to re-arrest her immediately because she was out of country accompanying her octogenarian husband, who was seeking medical attention in neighbouring South Africa. “The decision of the High Court to grant you bail has been set aside by the Court of Appeal,” said the magistrate. Police have also charged her for the attempted murder of Lipolelo Thabane’s friend Thato Sibolla, who was wounded at the scene.
