The DVSA has warned that fake profiles are being set up on social media to con learners into booking tests and lessons - the agency charges £62 for a practical test
Learner drivers eager to secure their driving lessons and tests have been issued a stark warning after a big rise in scams. According to one prominent driving school, sham social media accounts are being created with the intention of duping learners into paying hundreds for non-existent lessons and tests.
"They're buying it from people who then disappear. We've got two children learning with us, and they basically got diverted, somehow, off our website, onto a scam website." The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency ordinarily charges £62 for a practical test. Astonishingly, there currently exists no regulations preventing a test's resale at higher costs or its reallocation by certified driving instructors, reports the Express.
Campaigner Ellen Pasternack has suggested that hiking the cost of a driving test could be the key to funding more examiners, following previous calls by the RAC Foundation for increased fees for serial test flunkers.
