A group, Lawyers in Defence of Human Rights, has commended the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, for choosing Sylvester Okonkwo as his Chief of Staff.
The Senate President had in his first appointments announced on Monday named Okonkwo, Saviour Enyiekere as Chief of Staff and Deputy Chief of Staff, respectively.
The lawyers in a statement issued by the group’s convener and co-convener, Uche Nnadi Esq. and Maxwell Aleto, respectively, said the choice of Okonkwo, who is a lawyer as CoS to the President of the Senate was a good one. According to Nnadi and Aleto, Chief of Staff position is pivotal in executing identified priorities and day-to-day efficiencies, that allows top leadership to be more strategically focused, hence why the choice of a lawyer was the best.
The duo said as a lawyer, Okonkwo possesses the interpersonal, tactical, and organisational skills necessary to contribute to the success of the Red Chamber and the parliament as a whole. The statement reads, “Chief Barrister Sylvester Okonkwo will definitely carryout his duties efficiently and effectively. Okonkwo attended Dennìs Memorial Grammar School Onitsha and he is also an alumni of the University of Nigeria, Enugu campus where he bagged a Bachelor Degree in Law. . He hails from Ojoto in Idemili South LGA of Anambra State, South East region of Nigeria.
