The remains of Dr. Joseph Wayas, former Senate President of Nigeria, have finally arrived in Abuja, ending a prolonged stay in London. Wayas passed away on November 30, 2021, at the age of 80, and his body had been in a London morgue for 33 months. The delay in his burial sparked controversy, but his remains arrived at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport yesterday. It was received by family, friends, and prominent Cross River North Senatorial District leaders.

Peter Akpanke expressed relief and happiness that Wayas' remains had finally been brought home. The late wife's family also expressed gratitude for the efforts that led to his return. It should be recalled that despite a N250 million budget, the Cross River State government's committee headed by Kanu Agabi was unsuccessful in repatriating Wayas' remains.
