Lagos State Government on Saturday said it had credited the retirement savings accounts of 11,854 retirees since May 2019.
It also said it had started making preparations for the retirement of at least 1,200 workers from its public service between January and July 2023. The Director-General, Lagos State Pension Commission, Babalola Obilana, who disclosed this at the 23rd retirement benefit documentation seminar for intending retirees, in collaboration with the state’s approved pension fund administrators and annuity service providers in Lagos, added that the government was committed to the speedy resolution of pension issues and constantly innovating to deliver first-class service to its retirees and intending retirees.
Obilana also emphasised that the state government would not relent in its efforts to secure financial freedom for its pensioners as LASPEC had implemented and supported various pension reforms and business processes, including the RSA transfer window, automation of business processes, inspection of pension fund administations and the new LAG-ID card to ease the burden of the senior citizens.
While addressing the participants at the seminar, the DG explained that the commission sought to provide relevant information on the documentation required to process the retirees’ accrued pension rights which would be remitted into their RSAs upon retirement.
