The Lagos State Government and a German firm, GIZ, have revealed plans for an intervention targeted at youths to scale up skill development capacity to reduce unemployment.
According to a statement on Sunday, the plans were disclosed at an event organised by the Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget in collaboration with Lagos State Employment Trust Fund and GIZ on the Victoria Island. The Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Mr Sam Egube, said there was a consensus on the need to tackle unemployment especially among the youth in Lagos State.
He said, “It is important that a reliable data of the current employment status of Lagos residents is obtained in order to work towards job creation. “To drive initiatives around job creation, it is critical to develop a system that provides accurate and reliable data on current job status of residents of Lagos state; a platform where multiple stakeholders can collaboratively synergise their information, expertise, and activities towards achieving the common goal – job creation and employment,” he added.
