The Lagos State Government has reversed its earlier report that an evacuee from Dubai died of COVID-19, saying the pronouncement was made in error.
In a tweet Thursday, the Commissioner for Health, Lagos State, Prof. Akin Abayomi, said government only presumed he died of the virus considering the sudden nature of his demise and without the state’s prior knowledge of his multiple preexisting conditions. “This presumptive attribution is a precaution to ensure the safe clinical management of the patient and subsequent handling of the corpse. The definitive COVID-19 gold standard test has turned out to be negative for the infection and his death is no longer considered to have been attributable to COVID-19,” he added
