PETALING JAYA: Malaysia huffed and puffed against Myanmar in their SEA Games opener before picking up a point at Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila today.Velizar Popov’s boys continued controlling the game but Malaysia equalised against the run of play via a Hadi Fayyadh Razak header in the 24th minute.
Ong Kim Swee’s side started coming more into the game in the last 10 minutes of first half but Myanmar asserted their dominance again after the interval. Malaysia had chances to win – Akhyar Rashid’s 54th minute volley was saved by the opposition goalkeeper while skipper Adam Nor Azlin rattled the bar from a freekick 10 minutes later.
Syamer Kutty Abba could have nabbed a late winner but the Johor Darul Ta’zim midfielder blazed the ball high from close range in stoppage time.The other teams in Group A are Cambodia and Timor Leste.
