The friendly match is part of the preparations for both teams ahead of the commencement of the 2023–2024 Nigeria Professional Football League . The newly rehabilitated stadium will serve as the home ground for the Harmony Boys in the new season. Kwara United played all their home matches in the 2022–2023 season in both Ibadan and Akure, following the re-grassing of the pitch.
Kabiru Dogo’s side will kick-start their NPFL campaign with an away fixture against Katsina United on September 16.
