The Kwara State Government has constituted a committee to avert the likely outbreak of anthrax disease in the state, following reports of its spread in
The committee is one in a series of proactive measures taken by the government to ensure the disease does not enter Kwara State.
The committee headed by Dr Idiat Aminu, will among other responsibilities, ensure prompt response to any report on suspected cases of the disease at livestock farms, Kara cattle markets and other areas with the aforementioned symptoms. The State Government, through the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development appealed to the general public, especially the livestock farmers to be vigilant and report any unusual happenings, such as sickness or sudden death of animals in their farms.
According to the statement, “anthrax is a bacteria disease that affects both animals and human beings which has claimed some lives in neighbouring countries”.
