The Berom Youths Moulder-Association (BYM) has condemned the alleged killing of its member, Mr Kenneth Gyang, by troops of “Operation Safe Haven” (OPSH) in
The group in a statement signed by its national publicity secretary Rwang Tengong called for immediate payment of N100 million compensation for Gyang’s murder and the property they destroyed.
LEADERSHIP gathered that Gyang was among other mourners in a procession from Zawan Mortuary for the burial of a relation at Kuru Community but on approaching the OPSH checkpoint, one of the troops ordered them to stop and push their motorcycles. He said when they asked him the rationale behind the order, the officer opened fire on the victims, leaving one dead and another injured.
Tengong said another unfortunate incident was the destruction/burgling of homes, a church auditorium, shops and property in Mararaban-Jama’a after the tragedy. The group therefore called for the constitution of a panel of inquiry into the incident, which shall brief regularly on the level of its investigation in the interest of justice.
