The Kenyan police authorities have reportedly indicted a notorious police officer identified as Diba, who alongside other colleagues had been accused of extortions, abduction and enforced disappearance of foreign nationals in the country. Diba with other rogue officers had reportedly extorted $850 from a Nigerian and some had their passports stolen. He was accused of planting drugs in the apartments of their victims after abduction to extort huge amount of money from them. If they refused, the person would be jailed and deported.

Several Nigerians had been arrested by the Kenyan police and their whereabouts unknown without accountability. The two Nigerians were kept incommunicado under harsh treatment until one of them, Emmanuel decided to pay ransom of 850 US dollars before being released having spent over 24 hours in the police custody.

The Independent Policing Oversight Authority , is a state agency with powers to investigate complaints against police, at the Mombasa Regional Office. According to Anamonye, a petition to that effect was subsequently, submitted at the Federal High Court, Mombasa and the case had been scheduled for mention on the 31st day of January, 2023.

Mr. Anamonye’s case drew the attention of the Nigerian High Commission, Nairobi, and Nigerian diplomats in Nairobi Kenyan mission were dispatched to the police stations where the Nigerians were manhandled but were rudely turned down by the Police Boss of Mtwapa, Biberone Mazi.The two Nigerian victims of these rogue officers, who spoke to SaharaReporters on Friday, said had been extorted over 500,000 Kenyan shillings.
