The National Human Rights Commission said on Wednesday that a man and his three wives have been apprehended by the Kebbi State Police Command for degrading treatment meted out to his motherless son fo
r two years.
The Executive Secretary of the NHRC, Mr Tony Ojukwu, in a statement by the commission on Wednesday said the minor was tied by his father to a stake and fed with goat dung by his father’s three wives for two years at their Badariya community in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State. Ojukwu said Jibrila was rescued following a prompt intervention of the NHRC Coordinator in the state, Hamza Wala, whom he said promptly responded to “a report from neighbours about the demeaning treatment meted out to the child”.
He stated that the child “was allegedly tied by his father to a stake in his compound, fed by goat dung by his three wives for two years on the premise that the child had a mental problem: an excuse the commission dismissed as being untenable and baseless.” The statement added that the minor “is now in safe hands as he is presently receiving medical attention while the alleged violator and his wives are being currently investigated for further prosecution by the Kebbi state police command.”DOWNLOAD THE PUNCH NEWS APP NOW ON
