Katsina State is to vaccinate 900, 000 women of childbearing age against tetanus-diphtheria during a five-day immunisation campaign
The exercise will be carried out in fourteen local government areas of the state, namely Batsari, Mani, Mashi, Ungawa, Charanchi, Kafur, Bindawa, Kaita,A senior immunisation officer at the state Primary Health Care Development Agency, Hajiya Sahura Muhammed made the disclosure on Sunday in Katsina during a stakeholder meeting on the exercise.
According to her, the aim of the immunisation campaign is to reduce the occurrence of the disease among women and infants. She said, “Tetanus kills one out of ten people infected and that is why we are embarking on the campaign. A woman who is able to get five doses of tetanus diphtheria would have immunity against the disease during the childbearing age.”
