The Nation Newspaper Kano, Jigawa, Katsina begin vaccination of under five against new polio virus
, the states of Kano, Jigawa and Katsina have kicked off polio vaccination of children under five years .This was made known by the Mobilisation Officer of the State Primary Healthcare Management Board, Rabiu Ibrahim, during a Polio Vaccination media orientation meeting held at Tahir Guest Palace, Kano.
He said: “The vaccination team will also visit schools -private and public schools, as well as Koranic schools, including motor parks and playgrounds, to vaccinate children under the age of five. The Director General of Kano State Primary Healthcare Management Board, Dr. Mohammed Mahmoud, disclosed that, out of the 240 cases of polio myelitis recorded in the country last year, Kano accounted for 80 percent of the cases. “But this year, only seven cases have been reported from Kano,” he said.
“The essence of this workshop is to help the community to know the importance of immunisation and present polio as a challenge to public health,” he noted.
