A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Ebu-Olu Adegboruwa has stated the Supreme Court’s judgment, which quashed the conviction and 12-year imprisonment of former Abia State Governor, Orji Uzor-Kalu, will affect more cases.

Senior Advocate of Nigeria Ebu-Olu Adegboruwa has stated the Supreme Court’s judgment, which quashed the conviction and 12-year imprisonment of former Abia State Governor, Orji Uzor-Kalu, will affect more cases.

It held that the Federal High Court in Lagos acted without jurisdiction when it convicted Kalu, his firm, Slok Nigeria Limited and former Director of Finance in Abia State, Jones Udeogu. According to the Supreme Court, Justice Idris, having been elevated to the Court of Appeal before then, lacked the powers to return to sit as a High Court Judge. It held that the Fiat that was issued to him by the Court of Appeal President pursuant to section 396 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act was unconstitutional.Reacting to the judgment Mr Adegboruwa said: “There are several cases to be affected by this judgment now. You can imagine the time, money and energy spent in this case.

“When lawyers agree to hear a case expeditiously, Justice will be granted by the court in the manner that society desires,” he said.
