The Kaduna State chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities ( ASUU ) has announced its intention to embark on a strike action beginning February 11th. Peter Adamu, the union's chairman in Kaduna, stated that the strike will commence due to a series of unresolved issues concerning the welfare of its members. In a letter addressed to the national body for approval, issued on February 4th, Adamu accused the Kaduna State government of its failure to adequately address the union's grievances.
Among the members' demands are the non-payment of five months' salaries, spanning from May to September 2022, along with 60 percent of September 2017 and other withheld salaries belonging to academic staff. Additionally, the union is seeking the non-payment of Earned Academic Allowance from 2015 to 2020, and Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme from 2016 to 2023. These are just some of the numerous demands outlined by the union.Adamu pointed out that the union has repeatedly sent letters to the Kaduna State governor, yet he has not responded to any of the issues raised. Consequently, the union asserts that it has no choice but to proceed with an indefinite strike as a means to pressure the government towards resolving these outstanding welfare issues affecting its members
