The Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has reacted to the resignation of Doyin Okupe as DG of his Campaign Council.

Okupe stepped down from the position on Tuesday. His resignation followed the ruling by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja that convicted him of violating the money laundering Act. “In the circumstances, I have decided to step aside and plead that you appoint a new campaign DG who can continue the assignment with zero distractions. God bless you and your family,” Okupe wrote in a letter addressed to Obi on Tuesday.

“My Dear Elder Brother Doyin, I received your letter offering to step aside in order to avoid any distraction to the good work of trying to forge a new direction for our country, on board of which you have been from inception. It is a decision which I respect.”
