The Nation Newspaper JUST IN: Lagos shuts Alaba International Market over environmental offences
on Monday, October 23, shut down the Alaba International Market over improper garbage disposal methods.
Lagos State Commissioner for Environment Tokunbo Wahab announced this in a post on his X page on Monday morning. He wrote: “Alaba International Market, Ojo has been sealed up for poor waste disposal practices, failure to pay their waste bills, and gross environmental sanitation offences.” The closure is the latest in the Lagos State Government’s campaign to close marketplaces and demolish unlawful buildings.The Lagos State Government also closed the Ladipo Auto Parts Market and other marketplaces due to environmental violations.The Owode Onirin Market on Ikorodu Road suffered a similar fate as a result of uncontrolled rubbish dumping.
