EMPAWA Records front man, Joseph Akinwale, better known as Joeboy, is back on the popular charts with a vibrant new release dubbed, Body and Soul. The record, which is the prelude to his forthcoming sophomore album, is a melting pot of melodies and mesmerising songwriting.
After a very low-key 2022, which saw Joeboy release only three songs namely, Cubana, Contour, and Likkle Riddim, he is fully back behind the microphones with a packed calendar of song releases and tours for the year, he tells Weekend Beats.
Joeboy is no stranger to the music community in Nigeria; he is among the very few within the new vanguard of Nigeria’s music scene that have struck virality with multiple songs on social media. Recall that in 2021, his smash hit Alcohol took over TikTok and Instagram, while his hook on DJ Neptune’s Nobody became a world hit on the internet.
The young hitmaker has also distinguished himself with recognition from the Recording Academy aka Grammys for his work on the winning album, Music is the Weapon, which earned Major Lazer a win as the Best Dance and Electronic Album. He has also clinched major continental awards such as the AFRIMA Award for Best Pop Artiste , and Soundcity MVP Awards for Best Pop Artiste , among others.
With the wits of Body and Soul, Joeboy returns to his rightful place as one of the strongest pillars of love-themed pop music in Africa’s music scene. Body and Soul is out across all digital platforms.
