Jigawa has set aside N3.5 billion for the construction and rehabilitation of basic and post-basic schools in the state.He issued a joint statement with Mohammed Alhassan, his counterpart in the ministry of land, housing, urban, and regional planning.The commissioners said the SEC approved N2.5 billion for the construction, renovation, and procurement of teaching materials.They said the fund also covers sanitation services in basic schools across the 27 local government areas of the state.
The fund was to cater for 184 indigent students transferred from Sudan to Near East University in Cyprus. It included N312 million for the payment of 12 months of living allowances, visas, air tickets, and other travel logistics.Also included was N697.8 million in counterpart funding for the State Universal Basic Education Board .
This, the state government had said, would facilitate the construction of 156 new classrooms, the renovation of 207, the construction of 39 toilets, and the provision of 68 handpumps/boreholes.
