The Education Rights Campaign (ERC) accuses JAMB of unfairly posting candidates to distant CBT centers and demanding early arrival times, while JAMB denies the allegations and offers a reward for proof.

The Education Rights Campaign ( ERC ) has accused the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board ( JAMB ) of unfair practices in its administration of the Unified Tertiary Matriculations Examinations ( UTME ). The ERC claims that JAMB is posting candidates to distant Computer Based Test (CBT) centres, even within the town they selected, and mandating them to arrive at 6:30 a.m. The group argues this forces candidates to embark on journeys as early as 4:00 a.m., exposing them to various dangers.

They demand that JAMB reschedule the candidates' arrival time to 8:00 a.m., aligning with the examination start time.JAMB, however, denies these allegations. Spokesperson Fabian Benjamin states that candidates have the right to choose their preferred examination town during registration, and JAMB subsequently assigns them to a centre within that town. JAMB maintains that candidates are not placed in towns different from their selections, calling the accusations baseless and malicious. The board has even offered a financial reward to anyone who can provide evidence to support these claims. The ERC, however, cites instances where candidates have faced difficulties finding their exam centres due to the distance, leading to stress and anxiety. They express concern that despite conducting UTME for decades, JAMB continues to encounter these issues. The group emphasizes the need for empathy and sensitivity from JAMB officials, especially when dealing with young adults who are already under significant pressure during examination periods. Meanwhile, the Senate Committee on Tertiary Education and TETFund has proposed the construction of CBT centres in all 774 LGAs in the country to ensure a smoother UTME process
