Israel’s military has launched airstrikes on Houthi-controlled targets in Yemen following a missile attack intercepted over central Israel. The strikes targeted key military sites, including Red Sea ports and energy infrastructure in Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, according to an Israeli military spokesperson.
The Houthi -run Al Masirah TV reported casualties, with seven people killed at the port of Salif and two more at the Ras Issa oil facility in Hudaydah province. The airstrikes occurred less than two hours after Israel i defences intercepted a missile over Ramat Gan, near Tel Aviv.
The missile caused damage to a school and several vehicles, though no injuries were reported. The Iran-backed Houthi movement began attacking Israel and international shipping lanes in the Red Sea in October 2023, citing solidarity with Palestinians amid the Gaza war. Since then, Israel's military says it has intercepted hundreds of missiles and drones launched from Yemen, stating the Houthis' role in escalating regional tensions.
