The Chartered Institute of Project Managers Nigeria (CIPMN) has condemned the deployment of unregistered project managers by Ministries, Departments, and
The newly elected president of CIPMN, Dr. Jamilu Yankwashi, made this known in Abuja yesterday. He emphasized that project management plays a critical role in curtailing the growing menace of building collapse within the building industry.
Yankwashi highlighted that once the newly elected members of the CIPMN Governing Board are inaugurated, they will commence the enforcement of all relevant provisions of the Institute Act. He pointed out that the Act mandates both public and private sector players to ensure that all project managers are duly certified by CIPMN, but this law has been continuously violated.
“Section 14, subsection 9 of the CIPMN Establishment Act, No 3 of 2018, clearly states that nobody shall be appointed to manage projects in any organization, whether public or private sector, without the license of the Chartered Institute of Project Managers Nigeria. Violating this provision is an offense punishable under Section 19 of the Act, which carries a penalty of up to two years in prison.
“I wanted to emphasize the importance of enforcement because without enforcing the regulations in the field, we are enabling individuals at project sites to engage in improper practices,” he said.
