INEC: we won’t condone violence in Edo, Ondo
The Independent National Electoral Commission has cautioned political parties participating in the Edo and Ondo governorship election it will not condone any form of violence or other acts capable of endangering voters and electoral officials.
According to a statement its National Commissioner and Chairman Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, INEC said: “As we prepare for the Edo and Ondo Govemorshi p elections, we appeal to Political Parties sponsoring candidates and participating in the Edo and Ondo Governorship elections to eschew violence and conduct their activities in the best traditions of electoral democracy.
It added: “In addition to the concerns about the health of stakeholders is the related concern about the security of lives against physical harm to persons as well as private and public property. In the understanding that impunity encourages perpetrators of election offences, the Commission is vigorously prosecuting offenders.
