INEC To Issue President-elect Tinubu, Shettima With Certificates Of Return Wednesday News
Independent National Electoral Commission has said the issuance of the Certificate of Return will take place later this Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at 3:00 pm.
The INEC chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, who made the declaration in the early hours of Wednesday said Tinubu and the Vice President-elect will be issued their certificates of return at the International Conference Centre venue of the National Collation Centre in Abuja. Mahmood noted that Tinubu polled 8,794,726 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Atiku Abubakar, followed with 6,984,520, and Labour Party’s candidate, Peter Obi, came third with 6,101,533 followed by Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigerian Peoples Party who polled 1,496,687 votes during the poll.
The INEC chairman noted that INEC is bound by law to issue the Certificate of Return to Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the APC having satisfied the requirements of the law as winner of the election.The collation of presidential election results which lasted for four days showed the total valid votes stands at 24,250,940, the total rejected votes 939,278 and the total votes cast stand at 24,965,218.
