The presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, of shifting the goalpost in the middle of the game during the election Recall that INEC had on many occasions promised Nigerians electronic transmission of results.
However, the results ended up being collated manually, especially those of the Presidential election. Obi approached the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal to seek redress after INEC's declaration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the winner of the election. The PEPT upheld INEC's decision and Obi headed to the Supreme Court and was also defeated.
Addressing the media on Monday, Obi blamed INEC for his defeat saying the electoral umpire 'shifted the goalpost in the middle of the game.' He, however, vowed that 'We are not giving up,' adding that 'This is just the beginning of our quest for a new Nigeria 'We are now effectively in the opposition,' the former Anambra State Governor said.
