INEC says it did not redeploy the Imo REC, Sylvia Agu, because there is no evidence of wrongdoing against her.
The Independent National Electoral Commission says it has deployed nine additional Residents Electoral Commissioners in Imo State for Saturday’s governorship poll.
Mr Yakubu, represented by a National Commissioner in charge of the South-east, Kenneth Ukeagu, said the RECs were drawn from Cross Rivers, Niger, Plateau, Bauchi, Oyo, Katsina, Gombe and Yobe States. The INEC chief further announced that non-sensitive materials had been conveyed to the commission’s offices in the 27 Local Government Areas of the state.
He appealed to voters to turn out en masse to exercise their franchise, assuring them that the commission was determined to ensure that their votes count. “We are prepared to defend and protect lives and property as much as we can with the resources available,” Mr Abdullahi said.
