As part of efforts to alleviate poverty in Imo State, 100 indigent Catholic women were, at the weekend, given eight broiler birds and feeds each, to grow to maturity stage.
Norgem Nigeria, in partnership with the Owerri Archdiocese of Catholic Church, donated the birds to the women. Speaking at the event held at Villa Maria, Owerri, Chief Executive Officer, Norgem Nigeria Limited, Mrs. Norma Nwoga, represented by the Logistics Manager of the outfit, Chima Onyemekwalam, said the decision to uplift the women was to enable them become self-reliant through poultry farming. “It is better to teach people how to fish than giving them fish,” she added.
Nwoga urged the beneficiaries to ensure they monitor the health of the birds and treat them adequately early in stage of sickness. President, Imo State Catholic Women Organisation/Owerri Provincial Catholic Women Organisation, Mrs. Foster Madu, appreciated the gesture, stressing the need to spread to larger society.
