Why was the procession important to you as a Shiite? The procession was a peaceful commemoration of the killing of Prophet Mohammed’s grandson.
It’s usually marked every 10th day of the Islamic calendar. For over 40 years now, we have been doing this; even before I was born.I love my religion. I’m ready to die for the cause of my religion. You can’t say it has been proscribed. By the way, that court is not the highest court in the land.I became a Shiite member after listening to various sermons of Mallam Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, focused on social justice. Over the years, I have related to it and have seen the depth of facts there.
The policemen that were there were more than 70, all ready for battle and willing to take down as many people as possible. I was shot in the chest by a trigger-happy policeman. I didn’t know I would survive the attack as I fell immediately after I was shot. The police and the Federal Government had warned you not to hold this event, why did you defy the order?
The Federal Government is not a court of competent jurisdiction. By the way, the Supreme Court is the highest court in the land. We are not a terrorist group, we are for peace. Our members are peace-loving and law-abiding. We can’t be deterred by a judgment that is not in the best interest of all. As a religious body, we can’t be stopped from the peaceful assembly. It is not true that our movement is unruly or a violent organisation. Shiites believe in Prophet Muhammad and his grandson.
There is no going back. We believe in the Prophet Muhammad. The same way he gave his life to the religion, I’m ready to commit myself to the religion. There is no going back for us; if the government likes, let it keep killing us, I’m not going back. All rights reserved.
