Opening the Nigerian borders is only the first step to responding to the IMF’s call for the removal of trade barriers in Africa. There is more to be done, lest Nigeria becomes Africa's dumping ground.
The recent call by the International Monetary Fund contained in its report titled ‘Trade Integration in Africa: Unleashing the continent’s potential in a changing world,’ for the removal of trade barriers resonates among many policy makers on the continent.
The IMF report, from its findings, asserts that trade barrier removal would increase median goods trade between African countries by 53 per cent while also increasing the median goods trade between African countries by 53 per cent and with the rest of the world by 15 per cent.
