The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered an immediate probe into the alleged attack on the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Joe Ajaero, last week.
In a statement on Friday, the force spokesperson, Olumuyima Adejobi, said the IGP directed the Deputy Inspector General in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department to handle the probe. The IGP noted that investigation is vital to unravel the true circumstances surrounding Ajaero's alleged attack in Imo State last week. The Police boss asked the public to remain calm regarding the matter as the Force would take appropriate actions based on the outcome of its findings.
reports that Ajaero on Friday claimed that the Police handed him over to thugs to be beaten like a common criminal. The development comes days after the NLC and Trade Union Congress shut down Imo State over the attack on Ajaero.
