Fifty-three-year-old Longe Francis is a teacher at Obi Primary School in the Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State, which is also his alma mater. But since January 13, 2020, when the school was invaded by suspected Fulani herdsmen, who kidnapped a teacher of the school and attacked some others, Longe has been in and out of hospital. He tellsHow did the incident happen?

It was on the day pupils resumed – January 13. All of us – teachers – were in school to ensure the premises were clean before the pupils resumed. Around 11am, we saw herdsmen with cutlasses and guns; they started shooting indiscriminately at the school. So, we started running helter-skelter. Some of us were caught while others escaped. I was one of those caught by the herdsmen and Esther Alabi was kidnapped. We had to pay a ransom of N1.7m to the kidnappers before she was released.
