'I'm sorry I couldn't save him': Veteran recounts trying to save man in fatal Ginnie Springs shooting
Koty Stewart did not survive being shot Friday at Ginnie Springs. On Wednesday night, officials confirmed an innocent bystander died from another shooting Saturday.is hearing from a veteran who tried to save a Jacksonville man who was one of two people shot and killed at“I'm so sorry I couldn't do more," Waldron said."I'm sorry I couldn't save him.”
Waldron hadn’t planned on being in Ginnie Springs Memorial Day weekend with her friends, who are also veterans. She ended up performing CPR trying to save Stewart. “We jumped up first and we started running towards the gunshots,” Waldron explained. “I just remember in between giving Koty breaths, just screaming," Waldron said."I was like, 'Someone call 911! We need them here now! We need the cops, we need EMS!'”
“From the bottom of my heart, I’m hurt that I could not save Koty," Waldron said."I know at the end of the day I did all I could, but I wish there could have been something more. This was such such a senseless shooting,”“Koty wasn't just some guy," she said."He was someone's son, someone's husband, someone's father. And it's such a shame that his life had to be taken so soon.”this week and charged with Stewart's death.
